Enjoy breathtaking views of the Apurimac River and the surrounding landscapes as we ascend to the archeological site of Choquequirao.
Choquequirao is an Inca city in southern Peru, similar in structure and architecture of Machu Picchu, located in the Salkantay mountain range in the province of La Convention in Cusco. Choquequirao means "cradle of gold" and is well known as the "Sacred sister of Machu Picchu.” In fact, as the very famous citadel Choquequirao is an Inca city perched on a mountain in the middle of a tropical mountain forest. It was discovered in 1910 by Hiram Bingham, the same American archaeologist who discovered Machu Picchu in 1911.
